Hi all, I fell upon this and thought I would share. What is this crazy looking device?

Looks like a pancratic condenser from Zeiss Jena.

Yes, it's a Zeiss Jena NF with pancratic (zoom) revolver condenser. They have an n.a 1,4 bright field , n.a. 1,4 dark field and a low power condenser head. These were adjusted for a specific stand, so in case of mix and match one will have to adjust the condenser which is possible but a bit difficult and time consuming. In case you buy one I can point you towards a maintenance manual. The glass of the low power head sometimes deteriorates. For the bottom there was a phase annuli available that fitted all objectives. Such a condenser is very expensive to make and adjust so it dropped out of production. But performance wise it is said to be very good. It is used with a field aperture that sits on top of the light exit in the foot of the stand. I have one that still waits to be restored and adjusted, but the NF dropped out of use when I got the Zeiss West Phomi 1.
