I just received my Leitz Dialux, it's so tiny and cute next to the NS400
Full servicing of a NACHET NS400

Cleaning the Leitz is child play compared to the Nachet.
I don't give up on the Nachet of course

Following your progress...
Hope you didn't give up on that Nachet.

Not much update since then. (except that i bought a 3rd microscope : a very old Zeiss Epignost).
i wasn't able to find an acceptable alternative for a darkfield filter., it really need to be under the microscope between the 2 diaphragm.
i need to replace the partially damaged polar filter.
my home made trinocular tube is working

Re: Full servicing of a NACHET NS400
I was following your thread earlier and was impressed by your progress with such a limited distribution microscope and few resources.. I'm not understanding why a DF filter is important? For DF under N.A. .65 or so a simple DF stop will work in concert with the existing condenser and for over .65 a DF condenser is usually employed. Any DF condenser will work as long as it can be made to fit the condenser mount, is centerable and is tall enough to attain an appropriate proximity to the slide.
I wonder if you are not regarding the cardinal rule for DF ; that the objective N.A. must be lower than the condenser N.A.?
I have to say that the NS400 is a pretty finely designed instrument. In most ways, they got it right, which isn't the case for too many microscopes, even the popular ones.
