Just for fun eBay listings

#1 Post by Rossf » Fri Jan 07, 2022 9:40 pm

Saw these two listing yesterday and thought I’d share them-I like to class these listings as “marriage wrecking balls”! We all know what that is about don’t we fellas with G.A.S….too many scopes and too little time!
Enjoy the fantasy-will get a lotto ticket this week..
Regards ross

Why marriage-wrecking? It is a perfect birthday gift for the partner! Forever love!

P.S. I've just sold a "Swift fieldmaster", that is less cool but practically the same, for a more reasonable 150$... Maybe made in the same factory as the Nikon

You’re a true romantic patta! Was the swift one good to use in the field? The Nikon did have a full phase contrast version….

Yes, getting one of these might just trigger a blue-flash event ;-)
Which doesn't mean to say that I haven't just spent the past hour looking at folded microscopes of one sort or another ..I quite fancy the TWX-1:

There’s definitely some Nikon model H DNA in that design Chas..when I first saw your link it looked like a giant stapler!

The Swift, actually I've never brought it outside.
I think should work well, was really compact and sturdy; 40x usable and sharp.

But an hassle is that it is inverted (as the nikon) and without mechanical stage, so the coverslip tends to fall, move, hit the stage etc.

Here's a new "inexpensive" field scope if anyone doesn't have quite so much money to burn: https://bolioptics.com/40-400x-led-coax ... m09030102/

This place, BoliOptics, is pretty interesting. Lots of unique inventory sourced out of China for decent prices.

Is this a good stereo microscope? I'll buy a stereo sometime soon and Will Wetzlars keep popping up. They are good, but worse than top brands if I understand correctly? I don't think I'll be buying this one as it is big and the eyepieces are vertically up, which seems uncomfortable, I just posted this for fun and comments, as the thread title says... :D

I wouldn't get a stereo with straight up oculars. Ergonomics are pretty critical in microscopy.

Yes that is true. Not sure why would they make it like this. Although if you would connect a camera it is easier on a straight up eyepiece tube.

Way back in the day it was normal for microscope tubes to be vertical and for bases to tilt. Inclined heads moved into favor over time but are more expensive to make and the more expensive mechanics of tilting bases went out of favor, ostensibly since they were less needed and probanly much more involved to engineer for higher end heavy stands. But it turns out that you can make a really cheap scope by using the old straight designs mounted on a nontilting base. That's my guess as to what's up with them anyway.
