Zeiss infinity objectives to Leica

#1 Post by sigitask » Sun Jan 09, 2022 1:34 pm

May have advise: Is it possible to use Zeiss infinity objectives with Leica DM500 microscope? It seams that parafocal distance both brands is the same 45mm? Probably need adapter? Where to possible to buy it?

Using a off-brand infinity lens will most probably result in poor image quality.

You'll get an image, but with these issues:

1) Leica and Zeiss have different corrections. You won't get the excellent performance that Leica optics are capable of delivering.

2) The "reference tube lengths" are different (165mm for Zeiss, 200mm for Leica), so the stated magnifications will be off.

3) You'll need a 25mm (Leica thread) to RMS (Zeiss thread) adapter. The affordable ones are a bit clumsy to get parfocal and sometimes off for parcentering or so tight they are hard to retrieve (two tiny spanner holes).
