Olympus Bh2-KPA polarizing attachment
Olympus Bh2-KPA polarizing attachment
I'm looking at the simple polarizing attachment for the Olympus bh2. Searching around on the internet, I'm seeing a lot of sellers offering the intermediate tube and analyzer, however, almost none of them include the wave plate or the polarizer that goes on the substage.
Are these rare or something, or is there compatibility with another series or brand? Because I see people on ebay purchasing the intermediate tube WITHOUT the wave plate and polarizer. So I'm just wondering if they know something I don't. Are they substituting something else in? and if so does anyone know what else I can use?

Most any high quality (ideally linear) camera polarizer of the right dimension will work. Circular polarizers can also work, but may need to be reversed. Get one that just fits the recess, so it's easy to rotate. You can also cobble together a wave plate above it, that rotates separately, to provide a bit more control.
OEM Olympus polarizers and analyzers have very high extinction when crossed and decent transmission when aligned. That makes a difference in both polarization and DIC. You won't find that in cheap polarizers, but good ones are available for less than Olympus prices.
You can also make your own wave plate (for gout, simple polarization, etc.) to fit in the slot under some simple Olympus intermediate analyzers. The slider machined or rapid prototyped. The wave plate (quarter, half, full) purchased off Ebay.

Yes. Petrographic components are almost always rare, expensive and in too much demand. Presumably geologists more rarely upgrade scopes than biology researchers. That seems to also pull ul the price of more basic polarization equipment.

Okay, so let’s say I get something like this
https://www.ebay.com/itm/265403178603?h ... R4CM6ZydYQ
It comes without the polarizer. Can anyone link me to a good substitute? There are no bh2 polarizers available that I can see so I would need to find something else that works

Also the Olympus manual only has one waveplate model listed the TP 530-2. Is that quarter, half or full? are there other tint plates available?
And see my post above regarding the polarizer.
Re: Olympus Bh2-KPA polarizing attachment
There is a 45mm Olympus Polarizer on ebay, from Australia for $114.00 US.
I have an identical one; works perfectly on a BHS

It's crucial to locate replacements made especially for the BH2-KPA attachment if you're lacking the wave plate and polarizer for that piece of equipment. Replacement parts might be available from Olympus or a source of specialized microscope parts. The wave plate and polarizer should not be replaced with any other parts, lol shot since this could lead to insufficient polarization and poor image quality.

Yes, and with a hidden link.

I must be a little slow... where's the hidden link?

Quote the post to see the code for the tiny hidden text set to the background color with a link attached
Re: Olympus Bh2-KPA polarizing attachment
The three most common delay plates generate optical path length differences across the entire wavelength range (between 530 and 570 nanometers), half wavelength (260-280 nanometers), or quarter wavelength (137-150 nanometers).
so.......
