Ultraphot II information

#1 Post by Ultraphot » Mon Jan 30, 2023 5:52 pm

Hello,

I have been given an old Zeiss Ultraphot II microscope with a bunch of lenses and accessories, and I'm wondering if anyone can tell me what I've actually got here, as I'm a microscope newbie. I'm interested in finding out anything about its history, age, value, what the odd parts and accessories are, etc.

I have uploaded photos of everything to the imgur link below:

Thanks in advance

Wow ! this has been one of the leading Zeiss West research microscopes of the past (1960's I think).
This one is mostly configured for epi-illumination polarization, complete with appropriate objectives
and a circular rotating stage. Looks like it has had quite a history of use.
The high-pressure Xenon lamp can be used for fluorescence, it is not suitable for brightfield microscopy since it emits harmful UV, so
should only be turned on after reading relevant safety instructions.
Would help to see close-up photos of the objectives that are installed on the nosepiece. But anyway, those POL objectives are
fairly expensive, if they are in good condition and not delaminated. The eyepieces (10X or 12.5X) are of the high eyepoint type, which
is good, but should also be inspected to verify that they are not delaminated.
