Olympus FL PL phase contrast system

#1 Post by dtrinh » Fri May 12, 2023 1:14 pm

Hi everyone,
Does anyone know about this set? I can't find much on the Internet.

If possible I would like to know:
- how old are they
- are they good in term of image quality (bright and phase contrast), and how much would be a fair price
- is it easy to fit the condenser to a microscope like the BH2
- can I add a 10x phase objective to the set

Thank you very much!
Best,

These are short barrel objectives from the Vanox and BH era. The 1970's. The parfocal distance is about 36mm or the like.
So, to add a 10X objective, it should be of the same type.
They are good quality, although (subjective opinion) the contrast is less than those of the BH2 SPlans and Dplans.
Check out the Alanwood Olympus site for the specifications and meaning of the marks on them.

Hi,
Thanks a lot for the info. It will be helpful for other people.
The set was sold before I can make an offer.

In the 1970's transmitted fluorescence was still used quite a bit, less so today. Objectives and condensers needed to be able to transmit the U.V. wavelengths, so special glass, cements and construction techniques were employed in fluorescence optics manufacturing. Such optics are also useful for visible light applications.

Apo, thanks for pointing this out ! Given that Olympus had already epi-fluorescence accessories in the 1970s, one tends to forget the other and older options...
