Seibert Emoskop (or Emoscope, or Haverhills Episcope)
Seibert Emoskop (or Emoscope, or Haverhills Episcope)
Hello again.
Has anyone any experience with Siebert's original Emoscop or Haverhills Episcope?
I would like to try one but it seems a bit difficult for the German original Emo-optik, while I don't know the quality of the Haverhills copy.
Any info will be much appreciated. Thank you.

Re: Siebert Emoscop or Haverhills Episcope
Update: I bought an original Emoscop from Germany. It is a very nice 25-30x field microscope, among other things. Very impressed.

Congratulations! I hope you will post some pictures!

Good. I had never even heard of the until you posted your question. Can you post some photographs?Update: I bought an original Emoscop from Germany. It is a very nice 25-30x field microscope, among other things. Very impressed.

Contratulations! This is something I wanted to get for over 40 years, but never did.
Re: Siebert Emoscop or Haverhills Episcope
Here it is.
For those who don't know it, it is a 2.5-3x Galilean fieldscope with close focus, 5x loupe, 10x loupe, 15x loupe and 25-30x microscope. Made by Arthur Siebert, who worked for Leitz and Minox (making lenses for the legendary Minox spycamera) and then his own company, EMO of Wetzlar.
It is made of three parts, a A) 2 negative elements simple ocular, a B) 18mm objective (5x) and a C) 13mm 10x objective.
The ocular with just the 5x objective give a 2.5x monocular. Increasing the focal length it becomes a short focus 3x telescopic loupe.
The two objectives combined give also 10+5=15x magnification.
All elements together work as a 2.5x10 microscope (25x) that becomes 3x10=30 microscope.
Here with similar optics, the Belomo 10x21 Triplet loupe and the Docter Analytik Jena (former Carl Zeiss Jena) 8x21 monocular, with +1, +2, +5 and +10 diopter lenses that make it a 8x, 10x and 20x telescopic loupe.

A beautiful instrument. Thanks for the pictures.
Re: Siebert Emoscop or Haverhills Episcope
I made my own stands.
For the Docter 8x21, out of a Urobox and a 100ml bottle, cut roughly with my Swiss Army Knife. The combination is focusable. With the +10 lens I focus on the table at 20x and with the +5 lens I focus under the glass, on my mineral collection, at 10x. Fantastic!
I also made another stand for my Seibert Emoskop out of a dosing cup (and another out of a cream dispenser cap) and can microscop things at 25-30x. With the Belomo 10x loupe they are my everyday carry field kit for over a year now.

Very interesting field scope.
Like the cabinet as well

Re: Siebert Emoscop or Haverhills Episcope
For anybody who is looking for an Emoscope: The name of the maker is Seibert.
Seibert is an important name in the history of microscopes. A company existed under this name until the 1990s. They supplied most smaller microscope makers with optics. I'm not sure whether Emoscope-Seibert is the same company, but both were in Wetzlar.

I had one of these many years ago but finally got rid of it. I never found the images to be all that pleasing. I had a 20x loupe that gave a better view and was even more compact.

Yes, it's Seibert. Sometimes they have them on eBay as EMO Wetzlar. And in German it is spelled Emoskop.
I find the views alraight, as long as you focus right. The field of view is small. Compared to my Belomo 10x it is quite close. But there are chinese copies of the metal original (Haverhill's) and also plastic copies (Bioequip, Emoscope SM). According to the two collectors in the links above, they are inferior optically to the original.
The greatness of this device is its flexibility. In a 4x2cm little cylinder I have a Gallilean 2.5x telescope that helps me focus on the road and in conferences (I can see the whole board in the FOV but precisely focused, something my eyes can't do anymore). My 8x21 Docter might crop the board, according to the distance. Then I have the gradual magnifications, 5x-10x-15x-25/30x, all in one device. I don't know, I like it a lot.
For 10x, which is the standard in minerals, I also carry my Belomo, great itself and with more aperture.
