"How the Great war changed the optics industry"

#1 Post by charlie g » Sun Oct 22, 2023 10:16 pm

Hi, all, I enjoyed a terrific article in January 2016 : "Optics&Photonics News"

Really great account of developments in military optical grades of glass..just as WWI started. An actual: ' scramble for optical quality glass'.

Similar in many ways to 'scramble in US, for a covid-19 vaccine'.

best of luck with my links handicap: optica-opn.org/home/articles/volume_27/January_2016/features/how_the_great_war_changed_the_optics_industry/

I second that!
This article is very interesting. Even if it doesn’t make you a better microscopist, it certainly broadens your knowledge of our beloved instruments, and contributes to the refinement of your “noblesse d’âme!”

Not to speak of consolidating the impression of my failure to take part in everyday smalltalk! I am eagerly looking forward to a long monologue in increasing solitude during my coming social events. Christmas is going to be the pinnacle of my social skill achievements this year. I am certain my mother-in-law is going to adore me after being lectured about how great wars changed optics manufacturing. A welcome break from being lectured on protein folding, anywway…

But, seriously - read the article. It is absolutely worth it!
