Curious Nikon PlanApo 40X.
The high AN (1.0) for a 40X objective "catches my attention"

This isn't super unusual. It's typically meant to act as a finder objective for a 100x oil objective.

I think 40x oil objectives are a pleasure to use, not only as a companion to 100x objectives, but also as an optically superior and much less finicky alternative to 40x 0.95 dry objectives.

That said, I've never felt the need to buy this older-generation CF planapo (that never got an updated CFN version), as I own the absolutely fantastic and highly recommended Nikon Fluor 40x 1.30 objective. But I'm sure that the 40x 1.0 planapo is also great.
