Yes! Incredibly helpful, I was able to further remove the retaining ring from the outer barrel. Upon attempting to try to slide the correction collar off I found that it is completely seized; immovable.. I applied a couple drops of acetone, and still nothing.FredH wrote: ↑Thu Apr 04, 2024 1:39 amAre the instructions starting on page 30 of

For many years, my preferred ‘dismantling lubricant’ has been PlusGas formula ASnowyNW wrote: ↑Thu Apr 04, 2024 3:19 am… I applied a couple drops of acetone, and still nothing.FredH wrote: ↑Thu Apr 04, 2024 1:39 amAre the instructions starting on page 30 of

… it appears to soften and thin most of the troublesome microscope greases rather well

Acetone would not work as well as mineral spirits, since most microscopy grease dissolves a lot better in mineral spirits.
Just use maybe two tiny drops of mineral spirits. It has never failed me so far (I have released many frozen microscope mechanisms that way).

I agree. Plus, acetone can dissolve some substances you don't want dissolved if it gets into the wrong place.

Thank you guys all so much, you've all provided so much helpful information. I have successfully freed the cover slip collar as of today and returned this objective to its fully functioning status once again and I definitely couldn't have done it without you guys! Thanks again
