Leitz NPL Fluotar L 25/0.35 160/0.6-1.6

This objective seems to have thread adapter (maybe 25mm) on it, even though the other two that come with the scope (Labovert) do not have an adapter. Also, the Labovert is supposed to be RMS. I find this a bit strange. I won't have the scope in hand until some weeks from now, so the photos are all I have.

Certainly appears to be a thread adapter, although I don't think the difference is M25/RMS. M25 isn't a big a difference as that appears to be. Could be an M32 or something other. It appears a spanner wrench could be used to remove the adapter, leaving you with an RMS thread, Of course the Labovert is RMS,

I jsut measured the barrel diameter of a 20x/160 Leitz objective and it is 24.5mm in diameter. Those threads appear to be slightly larger so it could be a M25 or M28 adapter. Not sure what it would have been placed on though.

That's a real headscratcher. The only finite objectives I can think of with threads in that size range are for epi darkfield. Somebody must have had something very particular in mind. Or maybe it was just a general adapter for putting epi brightfield objectives onto a darkfield nosepiece and someone just put it on the leitz because it fit?

Thanks guys. Yeah, a peculiar detail in the setup. In the photo below one can barely see the 25x on the nosepiece, presumably without the thread adapter as the other two (a 4x and a 10x) are RMS and are also attached. The 10x is a star lens, so DIC compatible and it will be interesting to see whether it will play nice with the 25x DIC prism that is provided. If I can find an even lower power star lens later (at a reasonable price), I will test that too.

Here's a link to all the photos on the microscope:

It seems to be in great cosmetical condition.

It seems to have no-name eyepieces, which I will look to replace with proper Periplans, either 10x or 12.5x. I've seen at least two different versions of the 10x, thebasic 18mm field of view and 20mm. Maybe even 22mm, though not sure about that one.

If, as I suspect, the adapter thread is 28mm … this would suggest that someone has been experimenting with using that objective afocally.

28mm is, of course, the convenient thread-size that Leitz used for the eye-cup attachment on some Periplans … which is a direct fit to some popular compact cameras.
