Older viewing heads on newer bodies

#1 Post by SnowyNW » Thu May 02, 2024 6:30 pm

Can older Olympus BH2 or CK2 viewing heads be used on newer microscope bodies like the CX series or are the viewing heads corrected for 160mm/infinity?

You don't want to mix them up. The CH, BH, CH2, and BH2 have 160mm finite objectives and want finite heads. The CX and BX have infinite objectives and want infinite heads with the proper tube lens inside.

Yeah, as long as you also use finite objectives and make sure the mechanical tube length is exactly 160mm.
The real question is "why"? I have seen it being done before, but it was rather opportunistic than necessity.

Don’t think you can. As PeteM states, to my understanding there is a required correcting “tube lens” in the head of an Olympus infinity system, the tube lens is missing in the older heads.
