Hi All

Another follow-up post :)
You may be pleased to hear that I've decided not to buy another microscope - Chinese or other. Instead I'll keep the one I have and try and populate it with more Nikon CF N lenses if I can get them. At the same time, I'm going to try the 'extreme macro' route using a tube with a dcr-150 as a tube lens and infinity objectives. When does an extreme macro setup become a diy microscope? I'm not sure of the answer to that but I'm really only concerned as to whether the instrument does what I want it to.

Hello

That's an old thread of mine! I actually bought a cheap Swift 380T and upgraded it with some Nikon objectives and got some good images with it. I also built a motorised rail-based infinity scope based around the DCR-150 tube lens and procured a mix of infinity lenses. I'm very pleased with both setups. The Swift is limited in terms of upgrades but is a good scope and very good value for money. The objectives that came with it weren't bad. I'm currently working on trying to put together a diy DIC setup but I keep getting distracted by other things! Hopefully I should be able to come to some conclusion about how doable it is before to long :)

I picked up a like new Euromex iscope with plan phase ∞ LED.
Under £300 all in, I asked the seller if they where ok with that as it was the bay.
I was genuinely disappointed for them to loose around £1000 in only a few months.
As a hobby learning to clean and care for a microscope should be high on the list,a new microscope becomes used after a day out of the box, not knowing how to care for it becomes a poorly maintained used 'scope within days.

Thank you for your replies - I am also keep and upgrading my old scope - many advises (at least here) always point to that direction

btw - I didn't understand why you said you were disappointed and lost 1000 GBP if you bought everything for 300 GBP

Phil said he was 'disappointed' on behalf of the Ebay seller, not for himself :)
