Some videos testing new camera

#1 Post by MicroscopyUniverse » Mon Feb 14, 2022 11:45 am

Hi all,

After a lot of testing ( and investing money, why not) I finally choice my final camera setup.

I tested:

1) Industrial/microscope dedicated camera with 1/2 sensor + adapters (U-TV0.5X and U-CMAD2)

2) DSLR camera Canon 80D + adapters (U-TV1X-2 and U-CMAD3)

Both cases use direct image sensor projection, but in case 1 the adapters use 0.5x reduction lens

My choice is option 2. The image quality is superior from my point of view and field with is better.

Some videos:

I put the direct links because it seems embedded videos don't show all resolutions available.

I am very happy to finally obtain decent videos more easily :D

Looks like you made a good choice !

That second video,in 1080 quality, looks very crisp [wherever it’s in focus] all over the frame.

You should be very happy together.

Congrats on getting it worked out. Nice imaging! For now, DSLR's seem generally the preferred option with a trinocular, if the coupling hardware is available, particularly for those who already have a suitable DSLR or mirrorless around the house. This will probably change as USB cameras with 1-inch sensors become more common and affordable.

Thanks Dubious and MichaelG.

In my tests, the biggest surprise was the performance of Olympus uplafln 60x 0.90 a.n. dry objective.
Using this objective, camera recorded images are really better than the images perceived by my eyes through eyepieces !
It's normal because objective image projects directly to the camera sensor but I don’t expect such a difference

Very nice! Protip for youtube - if you render the video at 1440p or higher before uploading, youtube will use the vp9 codec which can make a small to very substantial quality difference depending on the scene :)

Are you using any specific video editing software? I can highly recommend Davinci Resolve provided you have a computer than can handle it! It is exceptional for color correction work.

Many thanks Josmann for your pro tips.

The videos are the original recorded by the camera and no post editing was applied concerning colors,
contrast or bright. Only the title was added using Ms movie maker.

Next step is to use a good video edition software to enhance image, add sound and more features.
I have a license of Pinnacle Studio but I will tray Davinci Resolve without doubt.

Kind regards
