Continuing Search for Protists

#1 Post by DonSchaeffer » Mon Nov 13, 2023 5:16 pm

I have hopes and aspirations that get in the way of objective judgement here. In the mudpuddle are various suspicious-looking objects. I know the bacteria, especially the strings. But those ovular shapes that simply hang in the water and some circular forms that seem to be moving inside are a question. Are any of these organisms? Or are they all just fragments that broke from or jarred loose from a leaf?

Hi Don,

You have some microorganisms there in the videos.

However, from the video, I can not clearly see the “ ovular shapes that simply hang in the water and some circular forms that seem to be moving inside” to tell you what they are.

May I suggest raising your condenser to as high as possible, opening up condenser diaphragm to about 80% and have a small coin placed on field lens. That would increase resolution without losing much contrast.

Thanks zzfnn. I have never tried manipulating the condenser lens. Now I'm fired up.
