Tomato Stem Section

#1 Post by JimT » Tue Dec 15, 2015 8:53 pm

Here are two images of a cross section of a tomato stem cut with my home made microtome. Stained with methylene blue. Unfortunately, some air bubbles still visible.

Epidermis, cortex, xylem, and pith visible.

Very nice, the Methylene blue has added useful contrast too. Living tissue always looks so colourful - I like it a lot. :)

Hey Jim,

Great Shots- love the color and super detail, really fun to explore with the eye.

Of course the eye candy starts with your knife- really good sections.

Well done sir.

YEAH Rod, where's your microtome stuff?? You were posting some pretty darn decent images last I saw (chopping up the wife's houseplants, hahaha).

JimT, sorry for that outburst. Your sections are impressive and motivational. One of these days I will be inspired sufficiently to have a go with the gear I already got but never even tried yet. Thank you for posting, and I agree: well done sir!
Cheers,

That looks very good. Makes a person want to buy or build a microtome. Dang it.

JimT, great work, as usual: the sectioning, the staining, and the imaging.

I must disagree-- CE already got his BIG Christmas present for this year. Maybe next year, though :)
