A loricate peritrich

#1 Post by lukem321 » Mon Jul 06, 2015 3:17 pm

Hi everyone,
Here is an image of what I think is either Platycola or Lagenophrys. I did not see any valve system at the aperture, so it does not appear to be Lagenophrys. The ciliate was attached to a fine piece of seaweed, making it somewhat difficult to observe. After a few failed attempts, I was finally able to view it with my 100x objective without it retreating into its lorica. :)

Ditto all the above. Difficult find and the photo and drawing really brings it all together. I think maybe a Platycola but that is just a guess based on web images.

Nice find! Did you video it as well?
Last but not least, are you using pastels for the drawing?

Thanks everyone! I really appreciate the comments!
75RR: I do not have a video, but I agree that this organism did warrant one. :) I do all of my drawings on a Samsung Galaxy note tablet
