A large grain, 3.26mm, on a thin section slide of Peridotite.
Peridotite is so colourful, no added filters or wave plates are required to make
stunning photographs. See the linked photo at the end.
Photo one is through a 2x objective with crossed polars and the stage
is in the "0" position.
The camera uses a Labomed 10x eyepiece giving 20x of magnification.
Photo two is the same grain with the stage rotated 45° bringing the
central grain to near extinction .
In photo three, the stage is in the "0" position and the Polarizer has been rotated 45°.
I am not a mineralogist so I cannot explain much more than I was observing
interference colours, but I always look for interesting patterns in mineral slides.
What I saw in the rotated Polarizer photo was a fish. Possibly a Grouper
or Sea Bass.
Your opinion may differ.
Please note. This photo is large,
Peridotite, Crossed Polars, 2x obj.
Three views of a large grain of Peridotite.

The large version is quite impressive! JimT
