Amphipleura pellucida diatom
Amphipleura pellucida diatom
Hi together,
here I tried to resolve the pore structure of an Amphipleura pellucida diatom.
- n.a. 1.4 bright field condenser with achr.-apl. correction, immergated
- green 546nm filter
- circular spot from 420nm filter
- crossed polars
- Leitz NPL Fluotar 100:1 1,32 objective
- Nikon 1J5 raw image edited with Rawtherapee
- warm white LED @ 24w

Re: Amphipleura pellucida diatom
Looks like you succeeded. Cool!
Re: Amphipleura pellucida diatom
I see you are using a Nikon 1 j5, how do you trigger it? there is no remote control, is it?
Re: Amphipleura pellucida diatom
Yep - looks pretty convincing to me, I'd be proud if it were mine! Well done sir!

Re: Amphipleura pellucida diatom
Hi Seta,
good question - this is the weak spot of the 1J5. Contrary to the former models it can't be triggered with the small infrared remote controls. It can be triggered by smartphone app but this includes image transfer and slows operation down. I only recently have started to use the top outlet of the trino head of my Phomi, until then I popped the camera into one of the bino tubes and had it right in front of me to releasy by hand. I plan to build an electromechanical actuator to cope with this problem. The 1J5 is very nice otherwise as it operated completely shock free and silent.

Nicely done! Afocal setup?
Zeiss Standard WL (somewhat fashion challenged) & Wild M8
Olympus E-P2 (Micro Four Thirds Camera)
Olympus E-P2 (Micro Four Thirds Camera)
Re: Amphipleura pellucida diatom
Afocal setup with the fast standard lens of the 1J5 over a Zeiss KPL w 12.5 eyepiece. This is my new combination that fills the whole frame.
Re: Amphipleura pellucida diatom
To much of a hassle for deep stacks, I found a 25$ nikon J1 and bought it for ocasional use. I would have rather the J5 because of its better DR and Color but I rather not having to deal with smartphone apps
