I pulled a piece of gelatin covering a rotting leaf out of the mud puddle this morning. It seems to me that this was different from the usual bacteria-based biofilm. It contained an armada of floating diatoms along with a smattering a protists. The look of this algae mass is different from bacteria generated biofilm.
