My artificial mud puddle has been my reliable go-to for bio-tourism over the months. The creatures who have entertained there have been reliable and I have enjoyed them. As Spring slowly creeps out of the current snowstorm I may be able to get out and get a natural pond water sample with new micro friends in it. In the meanwhile, here is a little reminiscence.

DonSchaeffer Such a good idea to have that resource to get through winter-I’ll bring my worm farms into the laundry soon and set up a plankton aquarium as down under heads to winter-I like to build a big compost pile in autumn and watch all the pill bugs and arthropods scramble to move in for the warmth and goo to lay eggs in...pill bugs have a lot of amusing behaviours. They go crazy for soggy cat kibble..

I just like microbes. Insects and arthropods generally freak me out.
