Quest for Wood Cells

I have this private obsession about seeing the cells of wood--the building blocks of trees. Wood is the ultimate vegetable stem. The substance is so opaque seeing the cells is very difficult for a light microscope. I've been using thin wood shavings and surface illumination. What I can see is interesting.

Nice, have to try!
I was once very interested in the acoustics of wood, and the cell structure is important there.
I remember great micro photos of wood sections... but who knows how they were cutting and preparing the thin shavings.

If you can recall where you saw them, I'd love to get a look.

that's the japanese planer, thin sections!

The music wood guru is a little woman in Australia, Voichita Bucur
but now I can't find her books free online
The image on the cover of her book, I guess come from some laborious preparation like the thin sections of minerals (Resin impregnation, cutting, polishing)

Crivellaro suggest to cut fresh wood or, for old dry wood, soak/boil it thoroughly before cutting
