Colpoda video

Here is a video of Colpoda feeding on bacteria. This video clearly shows the powerful vortex produced by the cilia of the cytostome of this ciliate. You can also see the formation of the food vacuole. This sample was from rainwater and leaves that collected in an upside down garbage can lid. I was curious what might be in there and was delighted to see these guys.

Sorry for the late reply. I used a Plan 40x Zeiss objective with the optovar on the PM III set at 2x. The Zeiss PM III has the older DIC setup (one slider in the slot above the above the objective turret & prisms in the condenser). The camera adapter also has a small magnification.
