Yesterday I found a small piece of lichen-infested tree bark. I secreted this specimen into my room and soaked in water overnight. Today I scraped some thin pieces from the bark and extracted some of the water from the surface with my pipette. I could see some of the cell structure of the wood, photograph the lichens in some detail and examine the living tissue taken from the bark including a rotifer, ciliates and smaller forms.

A Rotifer on tree bark? I wouldn’t have expected that. Thanks, Don.

I found two of them--inside the bark.
