Various amoebae

#1 Post by Wes » Wed Jul 14, 2021 6:23 am

Re-visited my favorite sampling location and retrieved a little bit of scum. As the algae in the scum started dying off the populations of various amoeba exploded.

Not only were there lots of amoeba but also lots of heterolobosean cysts

A rotifer got in the frame as well

Nice photos, also like the picture of the pond where you collected the organisms.

May I ask what kind of image files you posted? I can't see any of them, just an icon with "image" written alongside it for each. I know you did actually post the images since others are remarking on them, so suspect I need to download the right image processor or something, or maybe turn something off in Windows security or virus software. I run Windows 10 and tried both Chrome and Internet Explorer with the same result.

Very nice images, Wes! That looks like a great place to collect samples. I bet you have found a lot of interesting critters in that pond/lake. I always like how DIC shows the nucleus so clearly. Very satisfying to get such fine images.

Never mind my earlier query. The images are displaying now--very nice. Apparently it was a server problem that went away.

Yes, the server where I host my images does that sometimes, a storm takes it out and has to be manually rebooted.

Culture still looking healthy. Crawling with Paramecium, Oxytricha and what I suspect to be Nuclearia one of which shown in the video above.
