My first narrated video - the interesting things in an uninteresting sample

#1 Post by josmann » Mon Oct 11, 2021 6:18 pm

Hey folks, I put together this video featuring a few things I found in a sample with relatively low density and diversity. Let me know what you think!

I'm also going to release another video tracking the coleps that I highlighted which I think will be really cool. I just need to get my project set up right in Davinci.

I'm using a custom made Rheinberg-ish filter in this video. I think I'm starting to get a good intuitive understanding of what works well, even at higher magnifications. I'm particularly happy with the effect I got through my 40X objective where getting a nice background color and sense of depth can be challenging.

Great video ! Please keep them coming. I can’t get enough of microscopy videos. My scope is currently gathering dust since we moved, so I just look for vids on utube.

Thanks! And I know I owe you a description of how I modified my microscope. I'm going to make a short vid about it and will let you know when it's up. I've been preoccupied with other things.... like buying more microscopes....

Will do! I don't have many distractions in my life right now besides my cat - if work heats up I'll have to find creative ways to sneak in scope time.

And here's the motion tracking I alluded to! I definitely want to do some more of this. When I've been recording for Youtube, I usually try to keep the frame steady and let the microbes move within it. For this motion tracking, it'll be better if I'm more liberal with the stage motion. That way I don't get the video border in frame and the object tracker doesn't throw up :D. It's actually way easier to do this than it looks provided the subject makes for a decent tracking feature, you can keep it in frame, and you have a strong enough PC to bang out the algorithm. All done with free tools in Davinci Resolve.
