Sunflower stems

#1 Post by Balfroni » Sun Oct 17, 2021 8:25 am

Just starting out. Here are a few sunflower stems. I have uploaded screenshots to reduce the size as on my phone.

Nice and colourful. Hand Microtome?

Could you explain what you mean by:
"I have uploaded screenshots to reduce the size as on my phone."
Zeiss Standard WL (somewhat fashion challenged) & Wild M8
Olympus E-P2 (Micro Four Thirds Camera)

Hi,
did you make the sections and stained them yourself ?
To convert images to 1024 pixel 500 kb forum size I use Irfan view, very convenient.

Hi,

I did stain myself and left it in too long but liked the effect. My pics were taken on my phone and too high a resolution to upload to the forum so I took a screenshot to upload instead. Thanks for the info on how to change size.

I hope it's OK - please let me know if you would like me to remove following image.
I labelled your excellent section with the basic structure of the vascular-bundle...

Apologies if you'd rather I remove this version - just let me know.

Looks like you may have used something akin to Safranin - great metachromasia with
safranin + fresh sections!

Thank you so much for the explanation and letting me know what everything is. I love it :-) Is it ok to put on my Facebook. I did use Safranin. I also did some blue ones which came out nice as well. I am looking forward to learning more and discovering a whole new world. I had a nice old family compound microscope when I was young but without the internet, I didn't really know what I could do with it apart from looking at the pre prepared slides.
