I am attaching a few pictures of some colourful Nassulid species. Bruce Taylor helped with the identification of the species. I posted an article with embedded video showing cytoplasmic streaming.
I hope those interested will have a look at . There are lots of references, other Youtube videos as well. I am greatful to Bruce Taylor helped me with the identification of these ciliates. My wife made the sound track for the video.

The article: https://www.canadiannaturephotographer.com/Nassula.html includes video
Youtube video only: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zlyP6K1YKgY

The ciliates were found in a small pond next to the road and were only present for about 2 weeks near the end of August feeding on cyanobacteria (Oscillatoria).

It is nice to see the cytopharyngeal basket so clearly in several of your photos. It is very interesting to see the nassulid grasp the cyanobacteria or other food sources and then begin the ingestion process. The published electron micrographs of the microtubules of this complex are very interesting, as seen in the paper describing how this basket functions (https://cob.silverchair-cdn.com/cob/con ...
