Interesting substance (a form of vitamin B3) for photography. It tends to form globules of larger crystals inside a grainy sea.

This sample still wasn't completely finished crystallizing when I took the shots. Hot evaporation of organic substance solutions (usually a pinch in a drop of water) often leaves a glassy residue that slowly crystallizes when cooling.

10x/0.25 Nikon e-plan on Optiphot, polarisation, Olympus E-500 camera, enlarger relay lens. It's a bit unsharp in the left area, probably some misalignment in the perpetually improvised setup...

A 4x would have been better for the globule images, but that can't be done on my Optiphot with this DIC condenser. I can get in focus with my Lomo 3.7x/0.11 with an original MBU-4 extention piece but the condenser just can't illuminate the whole field of view
