I have been neglecting the "salt water" sample that I received from my granddaughter's aquarium. I took a look at it today. As expected I found it populated by very small organisms--at the limit of what I could see with my equipment. But as I scrolled along the side of a bit of decaying leaf, I saw a rather odd star-shaped amoeba. Then I saw several others. It amounted to a colony of amoebas obviously targeting the tiny flagellates occupying that part of the biome.

I think what you're seeing is some amoeba species which is generally free floating in your sample. I don't think it can be identified by this form alone - it appears many species will do this under certain circumstances.They are mainly bound to the substrate and creep during locomotion; they may enter the water column
by drifting after assuming the floating radiosa form
