When we see cucumber fruit (if that is what that long green thing is), the seeds are immersed in a gelatinous matrix in the middle of the more solid watery outer matrix. I guess when the plant is ready to reproduce, that gelatin must dry up and the seeds must solidify. I always wondered if cells walls would be visible in the gelatin. I took a look at this fascinating fruit and even saw what I think was the early development of the embryonic seed.
