Re: microbe in sebum? unsure
Looks like a scale from a butterfly, especially the last two pictures.

Re: microbe in sebum? unsure
Similar, to Oliver, I am pretty sure it is a wing scale but not necessarily a butterfly. Lepidoptera in general, have similar styled wing scales, so it could just as easily have been anything..... I have seen some fairies with wings that resemble butterfly wings, in books too. I am just wondering if the tooth fairy might have been around your place recently? I know those sorts, like to crap in your eyesockets at night, at least the ones around here do, so one could easily have dropped a wing scale on your noggin.

I can't tell if you're being serious or not Apo.
There's definitely no tooth fairies or insects that I know of anywhere near my head..
In the whole sebum plug I only found ten or so of these things..
I thought maybe some kind of fungal expression?

I think apochronaut was "jokingly serious"
Re: microbe in sebum? unsure
I'd say a wing-scale - certainly looks like one and is the right size...

Here's a match.
I think what must have happened was I used the same cover slip as I had had on a mosquito a couple hours earlier and the slip picked up a few scales...

Can someone recommend a good tooth fairy identification book on Amazon?
