Noobie here. This Stentor from a nearby pond showed an interesting behavior. What’s going on here? Thanks.

Closeup of one of the expelled spheres. I scanned Vance Tartar’s 1961 monograph for a clue. My hunch is these are parasitic ciliates that are being expelled. Correct me if I’m wrong.
