Bloom of euglenoids and its cause?

#1 Post by dahyon » Tue May 24, 2022 3:30 pm

After a difficult year with a fried data hard drive I have just discovered why my my garden pond turned green last year maybe.
The green was a bloom of euglenoids dominated by trachelomonads with other euglenoids.
I have not use any chemicals over for 30 years but this last spring I looked at spent frog spawn jelly and was astonished by what I saw...

Thank you for the kind comments.
I must admit I was overwhelmed by the numbers and diversity of protozoa in the sample.
There was a followup bloom of Daphnia which ate all of the euglenoids a few days later.
I am just finishing off a video about it.
Thanks again
David
