The ciliate fish parasite Trichodina
The ciliate fish parasite Trichodina
This video shows the ciliate Trichodina which is a parasite on the skin of aquatic animal, particularly fish. I had never seen one of these before so I was very happy to have the chance to make a video of one. A striking feature of these ciliates is the interlocking denticles help support the structure of the ciliate and help it to adhere to the skin. The beating of the cilia on the surface that attaches to the fish skin is also visible in the same focal plane as the denticles. The nucleus is C-shaped and can be seen as I focus through the cell body.

Is the video slowed down, or 1:1 speed?
