I recently observed an amoeba I had not seen before. This amoeba is called Cochliopodium. I noticed that this amoeba has a dimpled appearance on its pellicle. The dorsal surface of the amoeba has a flexible layer called the tectum, which is composed of scales that are made of complex carbohydrates (https://arcella.nl/genus-cochliopodium/). You can see these scales as dots in the photo below.
The photo was taken with a Canon 1300D camera and Amscope adapter on a Zeiss Photomicroscope III. The objective was a 40x Neofluar, 2x optovar, DIC with flash.
The Penard Labs website has some excellent SEM photos showing the variety of scales seen in this amoeba (http://www.penard.de/Explorer/Amoebozoa ... tismenida/).
This video shows that amoeba in action.
