The Green Pepper Seed

#1 Post by DonSchaeffer » Fri Jul 15, 2022 3:13 pm

Seeds are especially interesting to me because of their unique function. Cucumber seeds and seed support structures always jarred my curiosity. I tried to take pictures of the flat green pepper seeds and supporting green pepper tissue around the seed. Green pepper seeds are generated in an especially moisture-filled part of the plant. Cell walls appear to be very thin (even though they crunch when you eat them). The seeds themselves are very dense and the cell walls are opaque. The seeds are fairly regularly shaped. I should note that I use a range of objective lenses in these photos. The higher magnifications are sometimes less useful than the lower magnifications because you can't really see that much detail in the connective tissue between the cells walls.

Thin cell walls in the fruit part of the pepper. Thicker cell walls and smaller cell structures in the walls of the seeds.
