Protozoa from Teasel

#1 Post by dahyon » Sun Jul 31, 2022 2:54 pm

Hi
I found some teasel in the garden containing pools of water collected between pairs of leaves
I looked at a drop of this water and monitored how the protozoa changed over time

Very nice footage and interesting register.

I loved the slowed down motion of the corona, well done!

Thanks for those kind words Javier
That type of coordinated complex movement fascinates me.
I missed a really interesting teasel sample this summer due an atypical warm spell. Lots of aphids fell into the water but it dried out before I could get a sample.
Oh well

Thank you for a beautiful microscopy adventure of the world around us, dahyon. You can also keep a wetmount slide in a DIY 'wet box'...no need for messy vasiline..just a wet-box...either in fridge, or somewhere away from direct sunlight.

Use a good seal tin or tupperware small container..folded paper towel at bottom...soak this towel with water...lay in two wine corks...place your specimen slide on these wine corks, seal the container lid.

Again, wonderful microscopy you share, thank you. charlie g

Nice video...great production quality. I'm surprised all that stayed alive in a sealed slide in a refrigerator, for a month!

What illumination techniques did you use in this video?

Thanks for the feedback on this video
I appreciate the helpful comments
I have recently taken samples this current year (2022) from Teasel pools
and am now thinking about making another video
The microscope system I use is an old Leitz Smith DIC.
