Is there a doctor in the house?
About 10 years ago, I purchased a lot of slides from a University Biology professor's estate. Included were a set of blood smears that were numbered with no descriptions. They had the name of a US Air Force Hospital that, as near as I can tell, closed shortly after the Viet Nam war. I suspect the slides were from the mid 1960s.
I also suspect they were study aids for new doctors who would use them to identify diseases.
At first I suspected tropical diseases such as Malaria. I think I have ruled that out.
I now think they are different types of Leukemia as most of them (except one) seem to have way above normal White Blood cell counts. One seems to have 90% Eosinophils. Another seems to have no white cells at all and the red cells it has look like they have been run through a wood chipper.
I have almost studied enough for a medical degree trying to figure out what I am looking at.
If anyone can shed any light I would find it very interesting.

Me too , but I can't help you... I'll ask my cousin
Re: Is there a doctor in the house?
He said he doesn't know, but has an immunology exam in a month, so he might know by then or he'll ask his professor if he has a chance... Not much help from me
Re: Is there a doctor in the house?
The second 100x photomicrograph that features a cell almost like an Eosinophil is actually a Neutrophil. That particular slide seems to be a case of Chediak-Higashi. This immunodeficiency impedes the granulation of Neuts preventing adequate respiratory burst used to kill pathogens, mainly bacteria.
Re: Is there a doctor in the house?
Apologies the granulation is way too fine to be called Chediak Higashi.

Hi, neal and all...I simply 'googled' : "images for blood smears"..please try this as your specimens show up in the first images...and with labels.'' hope you try this.
BTW, neal, I'm impressed with how clear your 100X images are..I am having trouble with lint/ dust on either my relay lens, objectives, or both....aahhh , charlie g
