I am a pretty naive microscope observer. When I look through the microscope I am confronted with some elementary questions. Why do I decide that something is alive? What does the appearance of something I see make me think it's alive? I focus here on microscopic objects I think must be alive but that are only barely animate. I know that some living things don't "look" alive. How does that affect my judgement?
