what are the bright dots inside this Paramecium?

#1 Post by dtrinh » Sun Nov 20, 2022 10:40 pm

Hi,
Could someone please tell me what are these bright dots inside this Paramecium?
I assume they are non-digestible food, but not sure.
Also, does someone know how the Paramecium discharges non-digestible food? Or they keep them inside untill they die?
Thank you all!
Bests,

Inclusions in P. Tetraurelia have been studied and have been found to be various purines : guanine, hypoxanthine and xanthine.
Gout sufferers should take parameciums out of their diet.
