Moving Mudpuddle

#1 Post by DonSchaeffer » Sat Nov 26, 2022 1:55 am

I started using a paintbrush to collect microbe samples. Up unil now I have been using a pipette which misses a lot of organisms. This last collection contains the usual rotifers and some protists from various groups. I think the paintbrush is an excellent collection device--beating out the pipette by a mile.

Don,
Pipettes are skinny. I use a eye dropper- fat kind.
But really a pipette would be better cause eye dropper is way too much water.

Try dipping in the water sample a very short watercolor brush and then touching the brush to the slide, making a small puddle.

Don,
I like my way.
Plus if go to a lake could look in eye dropper and see if a visible microbe like a larvae or large copepod.

All those methods work well. I was just pleased to learn that the paint brush actually produces good results.
