Rotifer eating a (probably) euglenoid right before it hatches
This could be the most brutal encounter I've experienced through the microscope. While I initally thought this was an egg (possibly rotifer) being eaten, after consideration and input from others I believe that this could more likely be a euglenoid. I have updated my movie to reflect that.

The little thing probably didn't even know it was being eaten. It's just a machine.

In my opinion, you captured an unusual and amazing event.
First time seeing something like this.
But if it really is a rotifer's egg, then we are dealing with the phenomenon of cannibalism.
I didn't think it was at the microbial level.

I don't think it's an egg. I've received input and agree it's more likely some type of euglenoid. I didn't see a flagellum but overall it does have characteristics of euglenoids. Not as cool a story but still an interesting video. I'm updating the video now, it will take a while -- and then I'll replace the link in this post with corrected text.

Very interesting video!
Yeah, it definitely looks like an Euglenoid rather than a Rotifer. It is an amazing moment, nevertheless.

I can almost hear the squealing.
