Dried plants and UV
Dried plants and UV
In my opinion, microscopy is a very engaging and absorbing hobby, even a passion.
Not a day goes by that I don't sit down at the microscope and try to make observations.
To be honest, it's rare to see anything out of the ordinary.
But if you don't have what you like, you like what you have.
Since there is nothing new in my water culture, today I will post photos of some plants illuminated with UV light.
It may be a problem to view stereo photos because you have to make a slight "squint".

Re: Dried plants and UV
microplan,
Well you are being creative !
In the beginning of winter not many microbes in my sample waters, then less and less as winter goes on.
I do have a Stereoscope microscope I was looking a little at plant stuff but kinda doing other hobbies right now.

Dennis - Thanks.
It's different with my creativity.
Sometimes better sometimes worse.
It's more often worse.
And illuminating slides with UV light has always intrigued me because of the unusual colors within autofluorescence.
This is how I started my adventure with the microscope.
Recently I put a handful of moss in the water, I'll wait a bit and see what comes of it.
I'm tempted to ask what your new hobby is, but you're not giving up your microscope, are you?
Regards

My main hobby is local town history. I am in the historical society. I do research and try to add to the knowledge.
Definitely not giving up the microscope(s). I was just getting some cool stuff Fall of last year !
Other hobby is guitar playing. I was playing classical but jazz chords. I have an electric but just can't seem to get the swing of "licks" (leads) and stuff.
Taking walks has got to be a hobby. I take long walks but not on cold days.

Re: Dried plants and UV
Does the color really mean anything that can be interpreted? I always wondered that, especially when it comes to ultra-violet or color-modified photos.
Re: Dried plants and UV
Dennis - so you're a real renaissance man.
A lot of activities and not related to each other.
But you definitely have a packed day.
I suspect you get the feeling of a job well done in the evening.
Congratulations and a little envy.
Don - I'm an amateur when it comes to fluorescence.
But I know for sure that chlorophyll turns red when exposed to UV, so UV can be used to label chlorophyll.
It seems to me that lignin, which is a component of plant tissues, also changes color under the influence of UV.
In addition, fluorescence is used in medicine when human tissues changed under the influence of various diseases are examined. Then various types of dyes are used that penetrate the diseased tissue and glow under the influence of UV light, which facilitates diagnosis.
I know that fluorescence has many more applications, but it would be too long to list here.

Nice images. I've actually been looking at stereoscopic images the past couple of weeks -- somehow a couple FB groups showed up on my feed. I'll give yours a try when I grab my phone -- they don't seem to work well on my computer screen.
Re: Dried plants and UV
Bravo, I love these images. So beautiful and creative!
