The pseudoheliozoan Hedriocystis

Here are a couple of photos of the strange protist Hedriocystis. This is a small amoeba which inhabits a lorica on a stalk and thin pseudopods extend from openings in the lorica. These pseudopods do not have the usual ordered microtubule arrays seen in axopodia so they do not fit the defining characteristic of axopodia.

Hi Don,
These photos using a microscope with DIC optics. DIC produces the 3D-like effect.

Very nice images and interesting literature !
I have never seen this specimen, hopefully in the future.
