house fly
Re: house fly
Wow, very beautiful photos!
Re: house fly
Hi,
1.) For the reflected light I use the Mitutoyo M Plan Apo 2x, 5x, 10x, 20x, 50x
with tube lenses 200mm or 100mm.
In many cases stacked with the internal focus bracketing of the Canon EOS M6 Mark II.
2.) For the transmitted light I mostly use Nikon Plan Apo 20x / 0.75 / 0.17,
Lomo Apo 40/0.95/0.10-0.20 and Leitz Apo 63/0.95/0.11-0.23.
But sometimes I also use lenses that are not corrected to the cover glass.

Re: house fly
Superb depiction of the insect!
I suppose that your 2.) above refers to the transmitted light ?

Thanks a lot!
Re: house fly
Beautiful images! Some of them should be enlarged, framed, and hung on the wall. Makes me reluctant to ever swat one of these intricately engineered beautiful creatures again.
Question: in the first image I see a fair amount of dust on the fly, but in the subsequent images everything looks pristine, even at the highest magnifications. How did you accomplish this?

In the first photo the fly was still unwashed.
Then it was bathed in the ultrasonic device and then blow dried

Excellent.
As reference pictures and a good idea of what is possible your results are right up there.

Thanks for that info. I wonder if Canon's internal focus stacking does a better job than Photoshop's.ADi wrote: ↑Sat May 20, 2023 9:17 am1.) For the reflected light I use the Mitutoyo M Plan Apo 2x, 5x, 10x, 20x, 50x

By the way, those are all finite objectives? and, what's a "tube lens"?

Hi Squintsalot,
For stacking anything is better than Photoshop
I don't use focus stacking but the internal focus bracketing of M6M2.
The created images are stacked with Zerene Stacker (TIFF 16 bit, of course).
No, all Mitutoyo M Plan and Nikon Plan Apo Apo are corrected to infinity.
Focus bracketing is only possible with microscope lenses corrected to infinity.
But for the focus bracketing you have to use the photo lens with AF as tube lens.
Enclosed some information about the tube lens:

ADi, your photos are really great! Technically superb and very much an inspiration to everyone who wants to get into extreme-macro stuff!

Thank you Phill !
Re: house fly
This is the best picture of Fly I've ever seen, and it's the first time I can see the individual eye of it.
