Microplastic found on M&M Candy

#1 Post by Antartica » Mon Nov 27, 2023 11:18 am

Hello everyone

Today we explored M&M candy and were surprised and shocked to find microplastics on them. I think they rub off from the wrapper. It’s one of my kids favorites but I don’t know if we can eat them anymore  below is the full video

Hope you enjoy

Oh, don't worry. Microplastics are already in every other thing you eat, M&Ms aren't doing you any more harm, well besides being really sugary.

They've always been there. Those microplastcs are just the M & Ms that the M & Ms eat. How do you think they get that lurid plasticky coating on them anyway? You are what you eat.

You’re probably right but it sure makes me sad to see them everywhere. We’ve seen microplastics in pond, river and dirt samples. Humans have completely polluted this planet 🥺

Some M&Ms are available in a compostable package comprising cellulose and other plant material. Were these M&Ms from compostable or traditional plastic packaging?

It appears to be the traditional packaging. It probably rubbed off from the packaging or somewhere in the factory. I know that microplastics are everywhere but like I said it was disappointing to observe one on M&Ms. Perhaps I’ll inspect more to see how prevalent this is
