Haematococcus: a view from afar

#1 Post by gekko » Mon Jun 20, 2016 9:40 pm

Haematococcus (courtesy of Crater Eddie). I'm not sure what the small green algae are. My excuse for posting yet more Haematococcus images is that I found the low power view through the microscope beautiful. [10x objective; brightfield and cross-polarized light.]

Gekko, don't ever stop with the Haematococcus images until we tell you to. That will probably be "Never"!

Beautiful.

Many thanks to 75RR, JimT, John B, BillT, and zzffnn for your very kind comments.
JimT, the real reason is that Haematococcus is all I've got :) (a bit, but only a bit, of an exaggeration).

Both images are very striking. That red against the almost electric greens is just great.

Well done Gekko

Very artistic images! And yes, sometimes those lower power objectives can produce a striking result. Nice work.

Beautiful! Are there any motile ones, or are they all dormant?

molehill and CE, many thanks for your comments.
CE, I've not seen any motile ones lately (I did look). There were motile ones when the sample was relatively new.
