American Nightshade (I Think)
American Nightshade (I Think)
Not much still green here but found this one yesterday. Gave me a chance to try out my new Eosin Y stain in combination with Toluidine Blue.
First image is a TS with the 10X obj. revealing the vascular structure which completely circled the stem.''Second image is an LS of the vascular bundle with the 40X obj. showing the pits along the cell walls.
Third and fourth images are of leaves both with the 40X obj. First one shows stomata while the last one shows “empty” cells that had been eaten by an insect.

Re: American Nightshade (I Think)
Great series Jim, especially like the epidermis & stomata with the characteristic 'rosette' of cells surrounding each stomate. The vascular trace is nicely captured too - several different vessel-element types there. The colours - superb.
More of your high quality Jim - keep up the good work - plenty of 'shop-bought' flowers/plants available - no escape for the section-master!

Thanks all and thanks John. The Eosin Y really emphasized the cell structures.

Aha - I think I've got some in my cabinet - I'll give it a try - it's certainly good for the live tissue - nice work old chap.JimT wrote:Thanks all and thanks John. The Eosin Y really emphasized the cell structures.
